About Us

Anne & Steven DuchacSteven is a John Lyons certified trainer and spent almost a year at John Lyons’ training facility in Parachute, Colorado. He is especially skilled with groundwork and round pen work. He teaches horses to be respectful of their handler’s space, to politely and quietly lead and stand, to move forward, backwards, and laterally, and to confidently go over and through obstacles without crowding their handler. The consequence of this work is that the horse becomes safe and attentive no matter what is going on around it, and the secondary benefit is that much of what a horse learns in hand transfers under saddle. Steven begins correcting many serious problems, such as running off and spooking, through exercises on the ground. Horses learn that regardless of what emotion they are feeling, they must respond to it in an acceptable way. They learn that the person riding or handling them is more important than anything else, and they must keep their attention on you no matter what the distraction.

Steven has found that almost all horses can be trained by anyone who is willing to spend the time to learn the proper techniques, apply them, and then practice, practice, practice.

Anne has ridden since she was seven, and over the years has had the opportunity to learn about many different disciplines. She has trained working ranch horses, barrel-raced, ridden saddleseat, cross-country, hunters, and dressage. She has worked with many different breeds including warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, Arabians and half-Arabs, Irish sporthorses, Morgans, Friesians, Mustangs, and gaited horses. Dressage has always been her first love, though, and the area she has concentrated the most on. She enjoys bringing horses up through the levels, and loves to see them go from their first ride, to their first leg-yield, to their first flying change or piaffe steps. While she actively trains and competes, she also loves to teach. She enjoys working with any rider who wants to learn, and her students include advanced Pony Clubbers, adults who have finally realized the life-long dream of owning a horse, and people who need to rebuild confidence after a bad experience or injury. She is especially proud to see her dressage students competing successfully and moving up the levels, but her biggest thrill is seeing her students change from passengers into thinking riders who understand that they are training their horses every time they ride.
